Ray Thompson

Ray T. Thompson, age 78, of Sunburg, formerly of Spicer, died Thursday morning, February 18th, at Rice Memorial Hospital in Willmar.

Funeral services will be held at 3:30 P.M., Tuesday, February 23rd, at the Green Lake Funeral Home in Spicer. The interment will be at a later date at Jasper City Cemetery in Jasper, Minnesota. Friends may call 1 hour prior to the services at the funeral home.

Ray Tommy Thompson was born on August 11, 1931 in Jasper, Minnesota, the son of Christine (Benson) and Andrew Thompson. He grew up in the Jasper area, received his education there and graduated from the Jasper High School. For a few years he worked as a movie projectionist at the local movie theater and helped out his brothers. In the early 1980's he entered the Foster Care Program and moved to Hancock to live with Jerry and Bernita Olson and he was there for around 20 years. Ray moved to Spicer in 2000 and lived at the Fourth Avenue Homes Inc. for seven years before moving to Central Minnesota Senior Care in Sunburg because of failing health. He enjoyed going for walks, watching the Discovery Channel, going to dances at the Elks and Senior Centers, listening to Johnny Cash and Polka CDs, impersonating Johnny Cash and going to the cafe for coffee at least twice a day. He loved being with people and doing normal things. Now Ray has all the normal that God can give him.

He is survived by his best friend and housemate, Leland Kallevig, housemates, Richard Miller and Sheldon Leudke, his special family, Tony, TC, Matthew and Hunter Haycraft of Spicer, special staff members; Heidi and Amy, Deb Halverson, and foster mother Bernita Olson of Hancock, besides other relatives and friends.

Ray was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers (Clayton and Richard Thompson) and one sister (Adelaide).
