Abbott Peterson

Abbott E. Peterson, 93, of Willmar, died Thursday, March 31, at Rice Memorial Hospital in Willmar.
Funeral Services will be 2 p.m. Monday at United Lutheran Church in Lake Lillian. Burial will be in the Lake Lillian Community Cemetery. Visitation will be 2-5 p.m. Sunday at Peterson Brothers Funeral Home in Willmar and one hour prior to the service at the church.
Abbott Eugene Peterson was born June 9, 1917, in Lake Lillian, Minnesota, the son of Emil and Anna (Bengtson) Peterson. He grew up on the family farm southwest of Lake Lillian, attended country school and graduated from Willmar High School in 1936. He began farming with his father and later took over the operations. On October 6, 1943, he married Evelyn Schueler in Raymond. In 1963, he retired from farming and then worked for Duininck Construction for eighteen years. In September 2008, Abbott moved to Scandia House in Willmar.
Abbott was a member of United Lutheran Church in Lake Lillian. He was also a founding member of the Kandiyohi County Sheriff's Posse. Abbott enjoyed working with his hands and enjoyed gardening, wood-working and fixing nearly anything. He was good in the kitchen and made lefse, krumkake and rosettes. He also enjoyed the outdoors, deer and pheasant hunting, playing cards and checkers, and visiting with family and friends.
He is survived by two sons: Delton (Joan) Peterson of Atwater and Brent (Amy) Peterson of Rice; 6 grandchildren: Tom (and Allison) Peterson, Naomi (and Eric) Struck, Aaron Peterson, Hannah Peterson, Britta Peterson and Joshua Peterson; 5 great-grandchildren: Derik Peterson, Tara Peterson, Kylee Struck, Dylan Kroes and Morgan Kroes; and other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife: Evelyn in 1993; a son: Harlan in 1973; and three brothers: Melford, Rueben and Herbert.
