Alden J. "Butch" Peterson, 65, of rural New London, died unexpectedly Saturday morning at his home.
Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Faith Lutheran Church in Spicer with the Rev. David Dauk of Living Word Lutheran Church officiating. Burial will be held later at Ft. Snelling National Cemetery in Minneapolis.
Visitation is from 5 to 8 p.m. today at Peterson Brothers Funeral Home in Willmar and one hour before the service at the church.
Alden "Butch" John Peterson was born Oct. 17, 1945, the son of Felix Luoma and Ann (Horwath) Peterson. He grew up and received his education in the Olivia and Willmar areas. At the age of 17, he joined the Army and served during Vietnam. After his discharge in 1965, he returned to the Willmar area and worked for Gesch Construction for a few years.
On March 11, 1967, he was married to Donna DeAnne Thorpe in Watertown, S.D., and they made their home in Willmar. He returned to school and attended Willmar Vo-Tech for welding. Butch then went to work for Minnegasco for a few years and then worked at Swenson's Welding. In 1982, they moved to Granite Falls where he worked at a grain elevator, and in 1990 they moved to Wabasso to work for Jonver Elevator Construction. They later moved to Clara City and he worked for Condon's, and for the past 10 years lived in the New London area and worked for McCormick Construction as a sales rep.
Butch loved being with family and friends. He had great love for the outdoors and enjoyed hunting, fishing, motorcycling and just doing work around the house and yard.
He is survived by his wife, Donna of New London; one son, Michael (and Kim) Peterson of Lakeville; and two daughters, Michelle (and Corey) Geistfeld of Wood Lake and Brenda (and Rick) Negen of Kandiyohi. Also surviving are five grandchildren, Brooke, Blake, Jacob, Heather and Hank; one brother, Mike (and Rosemary) Luoma of Crystal; and one sister, Karen (and Tom) Zimmermann of Eden Prairie; besides other relatives and friends.
Butch was preceded in death by his mother; one sister, Mary; biological father, Felix Luoma; and stepfather, Alden J. Peterson.
