Alfred D. Woltjer, 87, of Willmar, died Wednesday morning, April 21, at Bethesda Heritage Center Nursing Home in Willmar.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM on Monday, April 26, at the First Covenant Church in Willmar. Interment will be at Fairview Cemetery. Visitation will be from 5-8 PM on Sunday, April 25 at Peterson Brothers Funeral Home in Willmar and will continue for one hour prior to the service at the church on Monday.
Alfred Dick Woltjer was born on July 9, 1922, in Raymond, Minnesota, the son of Dick and Mary (Schambachler) Woltjer. He grew up and received his education in the Raymond community. On July 9, 1948, he was married to Alice Theget and they moved to a farm north of Pennock where they farmed their entire lives. Starting in the late 1970's, Alfred and Alice spent winters in Orlando, Florida where they constantly entertained family and other visitors. After 58 years of marriage, Alice passed away in December of 2006. Alfred attended the First Covenant Church in Willmar. True to his Dutch heritage, he loved growing crops and gardening. He remained active in helping his children on projects and enjoying his grandchildren and great grandchildren.
He is survived by his six children, Ron (and Tai Jen) Woltjer of Sartell, Don Woltjer of Neosho, MO., Rick (and Iris) Woltjer of Pennock, Dave (and Rena) Woltjer of Pueblo, CO., Dan Woltjer of Willmar and Mary (and Jim) Layman of Roseland; sixteen grandchildren; sixteen great-grandchildren and special friend, Jutta Cluka of Willmar, besides other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Alice; and daughter-in-law, Kim in 2007.
