Alice A. Alseth, age 87, of Willmar and formerly of Atwater, passed away Monday morning, August 15, at the Bethesda Grand Nursing Home.
A celebration of life service will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, August 27, at Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Atwater. Interment will be in the church cemetery. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the church. In lieu of flowers, memorials to the Atwater Area Help For Seniors (Block Nurse Program), Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Atwater or Centra Care Rice Hospice are preferred. Alice Ann (Pickle) Alseth was born on September 24, 1934, in Atwater, Minnesota, the daughter of Ruby (Holmgren) and Joe Pickle. Alice Ann was baptized at her grandparent’s home in rural Atwater, confirmed at the Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Atwater. She graduated from Atwater High School in 1952.
After high school, Alice worked in Minneapolis for the Pillsbury Company and the Minneapolis Art Institute.
On December 28, 1957, she married Lester Alseth in Bethlehem Lutheran Church and they made their home in Atwater. To this marriage they were blessed with 3 children, Linnae, John and Loren.
Alice worked as a secretary for Bethlehem Lutheran Church for several years. She also worked as a teachers aide at Atwater Elementary school and then became secretary for Atwater/AGC/ACGC public schools, retiring in 2000. After retirement, Alice was a board member and volunteer for the Living at Home Block Nurse Program in Atwater.
Alice was very active in her church. She was a member of the women’s organizations, Altar Guild, taught Sunday school and was Sunday school superintendent for a number of years.
Alice is survived by her children: Linnae (Jay) Bosch of Atwater, John (Brigid) Alseth of Golden Valley, and Loren (Margo) Alseth of Eagan; six grandchildren: Aaron (Kim) Bosch of Grayslake, IL, Matthew Bosch and Greg Higgins of Toronto, Canada, Anna (Stephen) Holewa of Minneapolis, Ian Alseth of Golden Valley, Kevin Alseth of Eagan, and David Alseth of Eagan; and one great-granddaughter – Madelynn Bosch of Winona, MN. Also surviving are two sisters, Dorothy Bremer of Eden Prairie and Leone Holmes of Crystal and sister-in-law Estelle Pickle of Willmar as well as numerous cousins, nieces and nephews.
Preceding her in death were her parents, husband Lester in 2012, brother LaVern Pickle as well as brothers- and sisters-in-law.
