Alice E. Nelson, age 92, of Spicer, passed away Sunday morning, Sept. 26, at Carris Health Rice Memorial Hospital.
A private graveside service will be held at the Green Lake Free Lutheran Cemetery. A celebration of life service will be held at a later date. Arrangements are with the Peterson Brothers Green Lake Funeral Home in Spicer. www.petersonbrothers.com
Alice Evelyn Nelson was born on August 8, 1929, on the family farm near Kandiyohi, Minnesota, the daughter of William Sr. and Ola Glee (McClurg) Block. She grew up in the Kandiyohi community, attended the Whittier Elementary School, graduated from Willmar High School in 1947 and received her teaching degree from St. Cloud State College. In 1949, Alice was united in marriage to Daniel Nelson and they made their home in the Spicer community. She was employed as a teacher in New London. She was a member of the Green Lake Free Lutheran Church. She enjoyed gardening flowers and vegetables, bird watching, crossword puzzles, traveling, coffee hour with friends and spending time with her family. She also enjoyed playing the piano (by ear) and singing hymns. Her favorite scripture verses are from Proverbs 3: 5-6. Blessed be her memory!
She is survived by her two children, Dr. Karen Nelson of Spicer and Bryan (and Laurie) Nelson of Grand Forks, North Dakota and three grandchildren, Naomi, Daniel and Stephanie, besides other relatives.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Daniel in 2017; one grandson, Nathan and five siblings, Winifred, William Jr., Robert, George and John.
