Alice Shemon

Alice Luella Shemon, age 94, of Spicer, died Friday morning, April 18, at the Glen Oaks Care Center in New London.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Thursday, April 24, at Our Lady of the Lakes Catholic Church in Spicer. Visitation will be from 5-7 p.m. on Wednesday, April 23, at Our Lady of the Lakes Catholic Church and will continue for one hour prior to the service at the church. Interment will be at St. Mary's Catholic Cemetery in Seaforth, MN. Arrangements are with Peterson Brothers Green Lake Funeral Home in Spicer. www.petersonbrothers.com

Alice Luella Shemon was born on December 30, 1919, in Vesta, Minnesota, the daughter of Paul and Emelia (Radant) Marquardt. She grew up in the Vesta and Echo communities and received her education there. She continued her education and received her Registered Nurse License. Alice worked as a nurse in Ah-Gwa-Ching, Marshall and Redwood Falls. On June 10, 1940, Alice was united in marriage to Albert George Shemon and they made their home in Seaforth and Wabasso. In 1957, they moved to Spicer. Alice owned and operated the Lynwood Resort on Green Lake for over 50 years. She was one of the 50 members of Our Lady of the Lakes Catholic Church that assisted in building the church in 1962. Alice was a leader in the women's movement in relationship to business. She enjoyed hunting, fishing, playing card games and coffee socials with friends. Alice was an avid Minnesota Twins fan and collected Minnesota Twins bobblehead figures.

She is survived by three sons, Larry (and Kathie) Shemon of Mendota Heights, David Shemon of Montevideo and Joe Shemon of Spicer; five grandchildren; two great grandchildren; her canine companion, Coyote, besides other relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Albert in 1990; one son, Steven in 2002; one sister, Ethel and two brothers, Harold and Gilbert.
