Alice G. Thompson, age 89, of Willmar, died Sunday morning, December 16, at her residence in Willmar.
Funeral services will be 11:00 A.M. Wednesday, December 19, at the Green Lake Funeral Home in Spicer with Rev. Wayne Kopitzke officiating. Interment will be in the Spicer City Cemetery. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service. Memorials are preferred to Rice Hospice.
Alice Genevieve Thompson was born April 20, 1918, in Green Lake Township, the daughter of William and Lillie (Haverly) Jacobson. She grew up and attended school in Green Lake Township. She was baptized at the Green Lake Lutheran Church and confirmed as an adult at the Maynard Lutheran Church. On May 1, 1944, she married Bennie Thompson at Vinje Lutheran Church in Willmar. They lived and farmed near Maynard for three years and south of Willmar for one year. In 1948, they purchased a farm in rural Spicer, where they lived and farmed until 1985, when Bennie moved to the Willmar Health Care Center. In May 1985, Alice moved to Willmar. She later lived at the Cottonwood Apartments in Spicer for four years. In March, she returned to Willmar and resided at Valleybrook. Alice worked as a custodian at Sharon Lutheran Church in Spicer, Andy's Cafe in Spicer, the Spicer Boarding House on the north side of Green Lake and at Jennie-O Foods for thirteen years. She was a member of Sharon Lutheran Church in Spicer, Faith Lutheran Church in Spicer and later Bethel Lutheran Church in Willmar.
She is survived by a son, Curtis (and Pat) Thompson of Spicer; three daughters, Ardis (and John) Lindquist of Pennock, Lila (and Darrell) Peterson of Willmar and Linda Olsen (and special friend, Paul Ganske) of Marshall; seven grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; a brother-in-law, Victor Bierbaum of Willmar; and other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Bennie in 1988; a brother, Arthur Jacobson; and a sister, Bertha Schnoor.
