Allan Henry Remmel, 67, of Grove City, MN passed away peacefully at the St. Cloud Hospital on February 1, 2013 from complications of COPD. He battled with his diagnosis for years with no complaints, and his family is so very proud of him.
Memorial services will be 6 p.m. Friday, February 8, at Trinity Lutheran Church in Grove City. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the church. A time of fellowship will follow the service. Arrangements are with Peterson Brothers Atwater Funeral Home (www.petersonbrothers.com).
Allan was born at the Meeker County Hospital on February 1, 1946. He grew up and helped out on his family farm south of Grove City and attended Grove City High School, where he was captain of his football team. After high school, Allan served as an infantryman in the Vietnam War, and upon returning, attended college to become an engineer. Before completing his degree, he decided to go into farming in rural Grove City with his family. In the fall of 1984, Allan got out of farming and tried his hand at selling real estate, mostly agricultural. From there he did a few other odd jobs before working at Hutchinson Technologies until his retirement due to health issues. Throughout his life, Allan loved playing cards, water-skiing, snowmobiling, fishing, hunting, spending time with his family, and any puzzle game he could find. Fiercely but always jovially competitive, he loved winning any type of card, board or computer game. Allan's later years were spent enjoying "Hardball with Chris Matthews" on MSNBC, keeping in touch with old friends via Facebook, and enjoying the puzzles of his morning paper. His last summer was spent cruising around on his prized Polaris Ranger, checking out the local fishing lakes, and watching the crops grow.
Allan is survived by his wife, Chrisara Remmel of Grove City; and four children, Karla (and Larry) Rick of Forest City, Nathan Remmel of Atwater, Evan Remmel of St. Cloud and Kassandra Remmel of St. Paul; two grandchildren, Alex Berglund of Watkins and Hannah Berglund of Moorhead; two brothers, LeRoy (and Charlotte) Remmel of Grove City and Russell (and Peggy) Remmel of St. Cloud; one sister, Elsie Johnson of Elk River; countless nieces and nephews; and several unfinished games of Words with Friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a son-in-law, Darren Berglund; and a brother-in-law, Don Johnson.
