Allen C. Finsrud, age 82, of Atwater, died Wednesday morning, Sept. 5, at the Belgrade Nursing Home in Belgrade.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday, Sept. 11, at Peterson Brothers Funeral Home in Willmar. Interment will be at Union Cemetery in Atwater. Military honors will be provided by the Willmar American Legion Post #167. Visitation will be from 5-7 p.m. on Monday, Sept. 10, at Peterson Brothers Funeral Home in Willmar and will continue for one hour prior to the service. www.petersonbrothers.com
Allen Casmer Finsrud was born on June 1, 1936, in Minneapolis, Minnesota, the son of Alf and Helen (Foss) Finsrud. He grew up in Minneapolis and Atwater and in 1955, graduated from Atwater High School. Allen attended the U of M and the North Hennepin Community College. In 1958, he enlisted in the U.S. Army and was later honorably discharged. In 1960, Allen was married to Jeanne Nelson and they made their home in Brooklyn Park. Allen was employed as a retail buyer for over 19 years for Montgomery Wards and ACE Hardware, retiring in 1997. During retirement, he worked part-time as a salesman for Watkins products. In 2008, Allen and Jeanne were divorced. Allen attended the Assembly of God Church in Willmar. He enjoyed fantasy football, gardening and music. He was an avid sports fan of the MN Vikings, Twins and Gophers.
He is survived by two children, Joy Hein of Apex, NC and Scott Finsrud (and Steven Wright) of Clifton Park, NY and their mother, Jeanne Finsrud of Winsted, MN. Also surviving are two grandchildren, Tanner (and Kari) Hein and Joshua (and Beth) Hein and four great grandchildren, Grace, Ethan, Brynlee and Madison, besides other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
