Alvin T. Hans, 93, of Willmar, died Wednesday, January 6, at Bethesda Pleasantview Nurisng Home in Willmar.
Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Saturday, January 9, at Redeemer Lutheran Church in Willmar. Burial will be in Cloverleaf Cemetery in Willmar. Visitation will be 5-7 p.m Friday, January 8, at Peterson Brothers Funeral Home in Willmar and one hour prior to the service at the church..
Alvin Theodore Hans was born February 15, 1916, near Lakota, Iowa, to Albert and Anna (Roelfsema) Hans. He was baptized on June 18, 1916, at the Presbyterian church in Lakota, Iowa and attended elementary school in Iowa. His mother died when Alvin was young and he was raised by father and his stepmother, Zena. He moved with his family to Willmar in 1930 and graduated from Willmar High School in 1934. He was confirmed on May 27, 1945, at Trinity Lutheran Church in Raymond. He married Mary Winkelmann on May 17, 1963, in Raymond. They lived and farmed for many years near Priam and in St John's Township. He raised registered red poll cattle, which he often showed at the State Fair. Mary died in 1994. Alvin married Dorothy McQueen on February 28, 2004, in Willmar. Dorothy died in 2007.
Alvin was a former member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Raymond, where he served on the church council, and a current member of Redeemer Lutheran Church in Willmar, where he served as an usher and a greeter. He also raised horses and was a member of the Willmar Saddle Club and Morgan Association.
He is survived by three stepsons: Gerald (and Bev) Winkelmann of Raymond, Minnesota, Delbert (and Carolyn) Winkelmann of Hutchinson, Minnesota, and Allen Winkelmann of Clarksville, Maryland; six stepdaughters: Shirley Struck of Kalispell, Montana, Linda (and Tom ) Lloyd of Woodbury, Minnesota, Elaine (and Charles) Johnson of Princeton, Minnesota, Joann (and David) Sorenson of Appleton, Minnesota, Lois (and Roger) Koosmann of Spicer, Minnesota, and Linda (and Mark) Opsahl of Elk River; several step-grandchildren and step-great-grandchildren; four sisters: Pearl McIalwain of Minot, North Dakota; Margaret Blokzyl of Raymond, Minnesota, Alice Quale of Minneapolis, Minnesota, and Mavis (and Charles) Shuck of Pennock, Minnesota; a brother-in-law: Arlo Sweeter of Spicer, Minnesota; a sister-in-law: Laura Hans of Sunburg, Minnesota; several nieces and nephews; and other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his stepmother; his wives: Mary in 1994 and Dorothy in 2007; a sister: Lucille Sweeter; and a brother: Edwin Hans.
