A. M. "Bud" Braithwaite, age 95, of Minneapolis and formerly of Willmar, died on Monday, October 5, at his son's home in rural Willmar.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 A.M. on Saturday, October 10, at the Braithwaite home at 6891 Long Lake Road, Willmar, Minnesota, with visitation one hour prior at the home. Interment will be at Fairview Cemetery in Willmar with Military Honors provided by the Austin F. Hanscom American Legion Post #167 of Willmar. Memorials are preferred to the Kandiyohi County Historical Society, Hawk Creek Animal Shelter in Willmar or the American Legion Honor Guard in Willmar. Albert "Bud" Michelet Braithwaite was born on April 17, 1920, in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, the son of Laura Margrete (Jorgenson) and Albert Edward Braithwaite, Jr. He grew up in the Willmar area and the family moved to Minneapolis in 1933. There he completed his education, graduating from Central High School in south Minneapolis in 1938 and continued his education at the University of Minnesota. Bud was self employed with a popcorn and candy route in SW Minnesota until he entered the Army in 1942. He was discharged from Fort Richardson, Alaska, in January of 1946 with the rank of Sargent. Bud returned to Minneapolis and on May 8, 1948 was married to Elaine Lillian May at the All Saints Episcopal Church in Minneapolis. He worked as a delivery driver for a few years and then started his own distribution company in 1952 and was a distributor for Fromm Pet Foods, Pennsylvania Tires and GML Inc. of Roseville. Bud retired in 1985.
Bud is survived by two sons, Daniel (and Deb) Braithwaite of Nerstrand and Douglas Braithwaite of Willmar; two daughters, Michele Braithwaite (and Jim McGee) of Annandale, VA., and Lisa M. Braithwaite of Fridley; five grandchildren; eight great grandchildren; nieces and nephews, besides other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his loving wife, Elaine in 1998; one son, Jim in 2004 and one sister, Lauretta Miller in 2005.
