Angela was born May 26, 1917, in Olivia, Minnesota, the daughter of Frank and Rose (Swoboda) Wertish. She grew up in the rural Olivia area and was baptized and received the sacraments at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Bechyn. She received her education at Country School 59 and Olivia High School. She worked at the Yellowstone Cafe in Olivia and nine years as the sole employee of the Olivia Dry Cleaners. On September 28, 1950, she married Harris Hedlof in St. Paul and they made their home in Blomkest. In Blomkest, Angela worked as a cook at the Blomkest Cafe and the Blomkest School, retiring in 1986. She enjoyed using her skills as a cook and will be remembered for her bread, caramel rolls and apple pies. She moved to West View Village in Willmar in 2005.
In her later years, Angela focused on quilting. She had a unique ability to combine colors and patterns in her many beautiful hand-stitched quilts. She made a quilt for each of her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren and also donated many to the Green Lake Bible Camp Quilt Auction. Angela also loved gardening and experimenting in ways to propagate new plants. Her canning shelves were also full of summer produce.
She is survived by her four children, Elizabeth (and T. Hillary) Mohr of Springfield; Lynda (and Jerry) Van Den Einde of Blomkest, Bryan (and Donna) Hedlof of Blomkest, and Gary (Cathy) Hedlof of Willmar; 14 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; a sister-in-law, Delores Wertish of Olivia; and other relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Harris in 2003; three brothers, Frank Wertish III, John Wertish and Miloyd Wertish; and two sisters, Anna Herdina and Cecelia Kadlec.
