Ann Adel Strootman, age 63, of Sunburg, died Saturday morning, March 3, at her residence following an extended illness.
A service to celebrate Ann's life will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, March 10, at Hope Lutheran Church in Sunburg. Visitation will be from 6-8 p.m. on Friday, March 9, at Hope Lutheran Church and also one hour prior to the service at the church on Saturday. In lieu of flowers, memorials to the Minnesota Patriot Guard, Disabled American Veterans hunting program, North House Folk School or donor's choice are preferred. Ann Adel Strootman was born on January 24, 1949, in Redwood Falls, Minnesota, the daughter of David J. and Alvilda M. (Vogland) Hougham. She grew up on the family farm near Delhi, was baptized and confirmed at First Evangelical Lutheran Church in Delhi and graduated from Redwood Falls High School in 1967. Ann then graduated from the University of Minnesota with a degree in English and earned her Masters degree from St. Cloud State University. On August 26, 1969, Ann was united in marriage to Daniel Allen Strootman. They lived in Columbia Heights before moving to Willmar in 1971. Ann was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother. Ann worked part time as a substitute teacher in the Willmar and New London- Spicer School districts. In 1984, Ann began full time employment in the Willmar Schools until her retirement in 2004.
Since retirement, Ann has enjoyed making numerous quilts for her family, basket weaving and tending to her beautiful flower gardens. She also has enjoyed working with her husband, Dan, with many woodworking projects and constructing canoes. Ann's interests also included fishing and enjoying the outdoor wildlife. She always looked forward to duck camp and deer camp every fall hunting season with her family and extended family.
She is survived by her husband, Daniel of Sunburg; two sons, David (and Anne) Strootman of Maple Grove and Robert Strootman of South Minneapolis; four grandchildren, Erik, Samara, Maren and Warren and two sisters, Janet Rosenquist of Tempe, AZ., and Mary Mirocha of Goodyear, AZ. Also surviving are her dear friends, Paul D. Anderson, Trisch and Jim Beilke, Carold Barrett and her canine companions, Fergie and Yogurt.
She was preceded in death by her parents.
