Arlene Marion Olson, 85, of Willmar, died Sunday morning, July 1, at Bethesda Heritage Center Nursing Home in Willmar.
Funeral services will be 11:00 a.m. Friday, July 6, at Faith Lutheran Church in Spicer. Burial will be in the Lake Florida Mission Covenant Cemetery. Visitation will be 5-8 p.m. Thursday, July 5, at Peterson Brothers Funeral Home in Willmar and one hour prior to the service at the church. In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to Faith Lutheran Church.
Marion was born May 2, 1927, in rural Spicer, to Robert and Alice (Swenson) Lovander. Marion graduated from New London High School and worked for a few years as a secretary at the Willmar State Hospital. On June 12, 1947, she married Arnold Phillip Olson at her parents' home. They made their home in Willmar until November 1958, when they moved to their farm in Dovre Township. Marion lived the past few years at Sterling Manor in Willmar.
Marion was an active member of Faith Lutheran Church, where she taught Sunday School, Bible School and served on the funeral committee for several years. She was also a member of the Dovre Home Extension. Marion enjoyed sewing, quilting and knitting. She also enjoyed cooking and baking, especially her famous brown bread.
She is survived by four children, Phillip (and Gloria) Olson of Willmar, Kathryn (and Willie) Maas of Monticello, Mark (and Pam) Olson of Willmar and David (and Jannie) Olson of Glenwood, IA; 11 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; and 10 great-great-grandchildren. Also surviving are two sisters, Lois Lorentzen of Paynesville and Ruth (and Donald) Hoiseth of Hawick; and other relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Arnold in 2010; a sister: Lorraine Peterson; a brother: Elroy Lovander; and two brothers-in-law: Vernon Peterson and Arleigh Lorentzen.
