Arlene G. Rudningen, age 90, of Kerkhoven and formerly of Sunburg, died Friday morning, October 26, at the St. Cloud Hospital.
Funeral services will be 1 p.m. Friday, November 2, at Hope Lutheran Church in Sunburg with visitation one hour prior to the service at the church. Interment will be at West Norway Lake Lutheran Cemetery in Sunburg. Arrangements are with Peterson Brothers Sunburg Funeral Home in Sunburg, MN.
Arlene was born July 21, 1928 in Gilchrist Township in Pope County, near Terrace, Minnesota, the daughter of Alfred and Elvina (Peterson) Medalen. She grew up near Scandinavian Lake, where she attended country school. She graduated from Brooten High School in 1946 and attended Normal Training in Glenwood. She then worked at the Branvold Store in Terrace. On December 17, 1954, Arlene married Omer Rudningen and they made their home on a farm north of Sunburg. Arlene worked as a Title I aide at KMS schools for many years and even obtained her boilers license after the custodian became ill. She retired from the district at the age of 72. In 2003, she moved to Kerkhoven and continued to serve KMS schools as a foster grandparent until 2012. She loved her time spent with the children in the schools.
Arlene was a member of Hope Lutheran Church, where she served as a Sunday school teacher, with altar guild, and with Ladies Aid. She also served on the board at the Sunburg Community Center. She enjoyed having garage sales, crocheting, cross-stitch, and doing crossword puzzles. She also enjoyed trips to Prairies Edge Casino.
She is survived by a son: Orville Rudningen (and Terri Poole) of Kerkhoven, MN; a step-granddaughter: Cassandra Poole; a sister: Elverna Johnson of Sunburg, MN; her nieces and nephews; and other relatives and friends.
Arlene was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Omer in 1993; and a sister: Janice Welte.
