Arliss "Mona" Van Sloun, age 83, of Spicer, died Saturday afternoon,October 6, at Rice Memorial Hospital in Willmar.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 AM, Thursday, October 11, at the Church of Our Lady of The Lakes in Spicer. The interment will be in the church cemetery. Friends may call from 5-7 PM Wednesday and one hour prior to the service at the church. Memorial are preferred to the American Cancer Society or Rice Hospice in Willmar. Arliss Ramona (Ramlo) Van Sloun was born on August 6, 1929, in Hendricks, Minnesota, the daughter of Inga Marie (Singsaas) and Peter J. Ramlo. Mona grew up in that community and received her education, graduating in 1947. She attended Minnesota School of Business in Minneapolis and later worked for Farmers Insurance Group. On June 18, 1954, she was married to Kevin F. Van Sloun in Crystal, Minnesota, and they made their home in Golden Valley. They moved to Willmar in 1970 and then to George Lake in 1981, where they have lived since. Mona was active in her church, both in Willmar and Spicer. In Willmar, she was one of the people that helped start the youth programs and taught religion classes for several years. Mona's first priority was her family. She also enjoyed playing bridge and other card games, league bowling, sewing, crocheting, camping, fishing, baking, canning and gardening.
She is survived by her loving husband of 58 years, Kevin F. Van Sloun of Spicer, two sons; Kevin (and Deborah) Van Sloun of Forest Lake and David (and Pamela) Van Sloun of Andover and one daughter; Julie (and Michael) Lindholm of Minnetonka. Also surviving are seven grandchildren, two great grandchildren, one brother, David (and Audrey) Ramlo of Hendricks, two sisters; Ilene Jurrens of Brookings, South Dakota and Ellen Peirce of Reno, Nevada, many nieces and nephews, relatives and friends.
Mona was preceded in death by her parents, three brothers; Joe, Raymond and Neil Ramlo, one sister, Carine Hillock, two half brothers; Tom and Alvin Aunoien and half sister, Alta Aunoien
