Arlys R. Molenaar, age 80, of rural Raymond, died Friday morning, August 26, at the University of Minnesota Hospital in Minneapolis.
Funeral services will be held at 1:30 PM, Thursday, September 1st, at the First United Methodist Church in Raymond. The interment will be at Fairview Cemetery in Raymond. Visitation is from 5-7 P.M., Wednesday at Peterson Brothers Funeral Home in Willmar and at the church one hour prior to the service on Thursday.
Arlys was born on the family farm in Woods Township, Chippewa County, Minnesota, the daughter of Harold and Mabel (Armstrong) Johnson. She grew up in the rural Raymond community, was baptized and confirmed at the First United Methodist Church in Raymond and received her education from country schools.
On November 22, 1949, Arlys was united in marriage to Melvyn L. Molenaar and they lived and farmed near Raymond. She was a life member of the First United Methodist Church where she served as recording secretary, historian and choir member. Arlys was also a 4-H Adult Leader. She enjoyed watching the MN Twins, playing cards on Sunday nights with friends, gardening, quilting, embroidery and caring for her apple orchard. Over the years, Arlys was also a wonderful caretaker for her husband, Melvyn who suffered from Polio for 45 years.
She is survived by three sons, Donald (and Kathy) Molenaar, Ronald (and Pat) Molenaar and Gordon (and Shelley) Molenaar, all of Raymond; 7 grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren. Also surviving are four siblings, Daryl (and Eunice) Johnson of Raymond, Allene (and Ken) Hookom of Chanhassen, LaVonne (and Ken) Swart of Renville and Valerie Jaenisch of Pennock, besides other relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents and her husband, Melvyn in 2000; her brother, Allen Johnson; sister-in-law, Mary Johnson and brother-in-law, John Jaenisch.
