Arthur Anderson

Arthur F. "Duke" Anderson, 91, of Willmar, died Wednesday, October 5, at Rice Memorial Hospital in Willmar.

Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday, October 8, at Calvary Lutheran Church in Willmar. Interment will be at Fairview Cemetery in Willmar. Visitation will be 5-7 p.m. Friday, October 7, at Peterson Brothers Funeral Home in Willmar and one hour prior to the service at the church.

Arthur F. "Duke" Anderson was born April 11, 1920, in St. Paul, Minnesota, the son of Christopher and Georgette (Hug) Anderson. He grew up in Willmar and graduated from Willmar High School in 1938. On October 11, 1941, he married Maxine K. Conyers and they made their home in Willmar. Duke served in the U.S. Army in Europe during World War II. He worked for the Great Northern and Burlington Northern Railroads as a conductor and brakeman for 41 years, retiring in 1986. He continued to work part-time at Eagle Creek Golf Club until he was 90.

Duke was a member of Calvary Lutheran Church, the Elks Lodge, the Willmar American Legion Post and Eagle Creek Golf Club. He was an avid golfer and sports fan, especially baseball and football. Duke was known as a "lawn care specialist" and conversationalist. He also enjoyed having coffee with his friends and loved life.

He is survived by his three children: LaDonna Swart of Hugo, MN, Douglas (and Candace) Anderson of Palm Desert, CA, and Charlene (and John) Tomars of Clayton, WI; special friend: Mary Daughtery of Willmar; eight grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife: Maxine in 1990; one daughter: Sharon Breu in 2003; and one brother: Everett Anderson.
