Arvid Skindelien

Arvid S. Skindelien, age 84, of Atwater, died Wednesday morning, August 15, at Bethesda Pleasantview Nursing Home in Willmar.
A memorial service will be held at 1:30 p.m. Monday, August 20, at First Lutheran Church of Norway Lake. Burial will be in Union Cemetery in Atwater. Military Honors will be provided by Samstad-Jensen American Legion Post 375 of Atwater. Visitation will be 5-7 p.m. Sunday at the Atwater Funeral Home with a prayer service at 6:30 p.m. and will continue one hour prior to the service at the church.
Arvid Sherman Skindelien was born April 3, 1923, in rural Sunburg, the son of Elmer and Clara (Rood) Skindelien. On May 13, 1923, he was baptized at First Lutheran Church of Norway Lake and was confirmed there on August 15, 1937. He grew up and attended country school in rural Sunburg. He served in the U.S. Army in the Pacific Theater during World War II. He lived and farmed on the family farm in rural Sunburg. On January 6, 1983, he married Ingrid (Benson) Lund in South Dakota. They continued to live and farm in the rural Sunburg community until 2003, when they moved rural Atwater. Arvid served on the church council at First Lutheran Church. He enjoyed tinkering with his tractors and his dogs, cats and horses. He also enjoyed fishing, especially his trips to Canada.
He is survived by his wife, Ingrid; children, Lynda Behm of Atwater, Arlene (and Brad) Preslicka of Willmar, Janet Gort of Atwater, Lois (and Jerome) Anderson of Atwater and John Lund of Atwater; eleven grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren. Also surviving are a brother, Marlin (and Cheryl) Skindelien of Willmar; a sister, Glenda (and Carl) Just of Sunburg; several nieces and nephews; and other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Manley Skindelien; a sister, Corraine Okland and a son-in-law, John Behm.
