Axel Carlson

Axel M. Carlson, age 89, of Willmar, died Friday afternoon, November 6th, at the Rice Memorial Hospital in Willmar.

Funeral services will be 1:00 pm. Tuesday, November 10, at the Assembly of God Church in Willmar. Interment will be at Fairview Cemetery in Willmar. Visitation will be from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. Monday at the Assembly of God Church and will continue one hour prior to the service. Arrangements are with the Peterson Brothers Funeral Home in Willmar.

Axel Melvin Carlson was born November 3, 1920, in Whitefield Township, near Svea, Minnesota, to Swedish immigrants Alexander and Ebba (Anderson) Carlson. He grew up and attended school in Whitefield Township. On February 13, 1948, he married Florence L. Erickson at the Assembly of God Church in Willmar. They lived and farmed near Pennock for many years until moving into Willmar in recent years. Axel was a member of the Assembly of God Church in Willmar.

He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Florence; three daughters, Judith (and John) Krans of Faribault, Doris (and Jim) Heckman of Blaine, and DeAnna (and Gary) Winge of Grand Rapids; five grandchildren, Tony Heckman, Timothy Heckman, Mike Heckman, Jay Krans, and Shawna Krans Osborne; a step-grandson, Sean Winge; eleven great-grandchildren; a brother, Eldon (and Avis) Carlson of Maynard; two sisters, Viola Carlson Johnson of Willmar and Ella Mae Wiegmann (and Mark) Noordmans of Raymond; and other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Alex and Ebba Carlson; two brothers, Edwin Carlson and Harry Carlson; and a sister, Minnie Peterson.
