ATWATER, MN
Barbara Ann Kohn, 62, of Ft. Ripley, formerly of Atwater, died Sunday morning, July 23, at her home following an extended illness.
The service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, July 27, at St. John Lutheran Church north of Atwater with Rev. Robert Westad officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Visitation will be held from 4 to 6 p.m. Wednesday at the church and one hour prior to the service. Arrangements are with the Atwater Funeral Home.
Barbara Ann Kohn was born on January 22, 1944, in Willmar, the daughter of Lucille (Denton) and Bernie Lilleberg. She grew up in the Atwater community, was baptized and confirmed at St. John Lutheran Church and graduated from Atwater High School. She was selected Miss Atwater in 1961, chosen Kandiyohi County Dairy Princess in 1962 and for a time was the church organist at St. John Lutheran Church. She graduated from the University of Minnesota in 1967 with a BA degree in education. On August 18, 1967, she was married to Brian J. Kohn. They lived in Albuquerque, New Mexico; Ft. Walton Beach, Florida; and Colorado Springs, Colorado, before moving to Ft. Ripley, Minnesota. She taught elementary school in Minneapolis and Albuquerque and SmokeEnders classes in New Mexico. She was actively involved in the Marriage Encounter Program in Colorado and New Mexico and the Mounted Eagles Therapeutic Horsemanship Program in Brainerd. She loved to talk, was great with people and had a quick and wonderful sense of humor. Her hobbies included reading, swimming, horseback riding, wood and ceramic crafts, environmental and wildlife preservation.
She is survived by her husband, Brian Kohn of Ft. Ripley; two sons, Christopher (and Autumn) Kohn of Los Angeles, California, Jeffrey (and Sara) of Albuquerque, New Mexico and two granddaughters, Marissa and Callista Kohn. Also surviving are her parents, Lucille and Bernie Lilleberg of Atwater; three brothers, Stanley (and Barbara) Lilleberg of Atwater, James (and Mary Lee) Lilleberg of Hillsboro, North Dakota and Jon (and Andrea) Lilleberg of Maple Grove, besides other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by a sister, Terri Jean in infancy.
