Bernard "Bernie" Stull, age 74, of Willmar, died unexpectedly Sunday, September 9, at his home.
A Celebration of Life Service will be held on Tuesday, September 18th at 11:00 a.m. at the Green Lake County Park Beach at 12381 North Shore Drive Spicer, MN. Military Honors will be provided by the Willmar VFW Post #1639.
Bernard "Bernie" Stull was born on January 14, 1944 in Pontiac, Illinois to Oral & Jane (O'Donnell) Stull. He grew up and received his education in Odell, Illinois at Saint Paul Parochial School. He received his diploma from the American School in Chicago, Illinois. Right out of school Bernie was a firefighter with the Odell Fire Department. In 1967 he enlisted in the U.S. Air Force and served in Thailand, Laos & Vietnam as an Aircraft Maintenance Specialist. He was awarded the National Defense Service Medal; Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal; 2dBronze Service Star to the Vietnam Service Medal; Small Arms Expert Marksmanship Ribbon; Air Force Longevity Service Award and the Air Force Good Conduct Medal. He was proud to serve his country.
He married Sally Landin on April 14, 1969 in Watertown, S.D. They lived on Wright Patterson Air Force Base in Fairborn, Ohio; Mather Air Force Base in Rancho Cordova, California; Kerkhoven, Minnesota; Mapleton, North Dakota; Spicer, Minnesota and New London, Minnesota. They were blessed with 4 children; James Sr., Laura, Eric and Amy. They divorced in 1981.
Bernie had many careers throughout his life which included carpentry, mechanic, welder, turkey farm operator and property maintenance. His hobbies were fishing, hunting, camping and listening to country music. He was an avid MN Vikings and MN Lynx fan, making sure his schedule revolved around being able to watch their games. He also enjoyed race cars which led to him being a mechanic for Nascar Race Car Driver Terry LaBonte at the start of LaBonte's racing career. He was a member of the Willmar VFW Post #1639 where he served as Commander in 1981 & 1982.
He is survived by his children: James Sr. (MiYon) Stull of Springfield, VA; Laura (Dean) Anfinson of Spicer, MN; Eric Stull of Spicer, MN; Amy (Daniel) Mead of Marshall, MN; and Jennifer (Jeremy) Henson of Colorado Springs, CO. Grandchildren: James Jr., Jami, Baylie, Hunter, Kaitlyn, Colton, Cody, Tyler, Victoria, Blake, Austin, Payton, Preston, Lexi, Eli, Cheyenne, Kyle, Dalton and three great grandchildren: Taylor, Maybree and Braxton and five cousins.
He was preceded in death by his parents, aunts & uncles; Hollis & Irene Edwards, Dorothy & Doc Schou and two cousins.
