Bernice Maud Engfer, age 88, of Willmar, died Monday evening, Dec. 22, at Bethesda Pleasantview Nursing Home.
Funeral services will be held at 10:00 A.M. on Friday, Dec. 26, at the Bethesda Pleasantview Nursing Home with Rev. Pablo Obregon officiating. Interment will be at the Kinkead Cemetery in Alexandria. Visitation is one hour prior to the service at the nursing home. Funeral arrangements are with Peterson Brothers Funeral Home.
Bernice was born on April 17, 1920, in Duluth, Minnesota, the daughter of Fred and Maud (Birdsall) Petry. She grew up in Hinkley and in 1938, moved with her family to Jackson, Minnesota, where she graduated from Jackson High School in 1939. In June of 1940, Bernice was married to Harold Grove. They lived for 10 years in Jackson and then moved to Adrian, where they owned and operated the I.H. Dealership for 10 years. They then moved to Alexandria where they owned and operated the Andra Motel and later divorced. On December 5, 1969, Bernice was married to Henry Engfer and they made their home in Minneapolis. In 1974, they moved to Alexandria. In 1975, Henry died and in 1976, Bernice moved to Willmar where she was employed at Bethesda Homes in the laundry department, retiring in 1986 due to her health. She was a member of Calvary Lutheran Church. Bernice enjoyed needlework, sewing, reading, crossword puzzles and being with her family.
She is survived by her son, Robert (and Kathy) Grove of Willmar; two grandchildren, Robert Grove (and special friend, Kaylene Zambito) of Eau Claire, WI., and Kellie (and Carl) Carlson of Pennock; and three great grandchildren, Cavin, Clay and Colten Carlson, besides other relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents; both husbands; one brother, Orval and three sisters, Clara, twin sister Dorothy and Betty.
