Bert Haats

Albertus "Bert" J. Haats, age 94, of Willmar, died Friday afternoon, November 2, at Rice Care Center in Willmar, where he resided for the past several years.

Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Tuesday, November 6, at Redeemer Lutheran Church in Willmar with Rev. Steve Bielenberg officiating. Interment will be in Fairview Cemetery in Raymond. Visitation will be 5-7 p.m. Monday at Peterson Brothers Funeral Home in Willmar and will continue one hour prior to the service at the church.

Albertus "Bert" Johan Haats was born December 11, 1912, in Raymond, Minnesota, the son of Haat and Ipkea (Sapp) Haats. He grew up and received his education in the Raymond community. He was baptized and confirmed at Bethany Reformed Church in Clara City. On December 28, 1935, he married Mildred B. Henslin. Bert worked in construction and farmed near Maynard. In 1976, he retired from farming and moved to Willmar. Bert later worked for Holiday Inn, Super 8 Motel and Chappell Central, and Natvik Supply. He was a former member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Raymond and Immanuel Lutheran Church in Clara City, and a current member of Redeemer Lutheran Church in Willmar. He was also a member of Lutheran Brotherhood.

Bert enjoyed farming and keeping his fields, yard and buildings neat and clean. He also enjoyed playing cards, find-a-word puzzles, sweets, country western music, Polka Time and watching Price Is Right and Wheel of Fortune. He always looked forward to coming home on Sundays to visit with his wife, children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

He is survived by his wife, Millie of Willmar; a son, Stanley (and Kathy) Haats of Maynard; four daughters, LaVonne (and Charles) Carr of Rogers, Deanne (and Ronald) Beito of Buffalo, Bonita (and Steven) Andresen of Clara City and LeNae (and LaVern) Teichert of Montevideo. Also surviving are nine grandchildren; eleven great-grandchildren; a sister, Johanna (and John) Klaassen of Willmar; and other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Ed and Ray; four sisters, Grace, Tillie, Edna and Elizabeth; a grandson, Troy Haats; and a great-grandson, Mark Rongstad.
