Betty Mae Anderson, age 92, of Atwater, died Friday evening, May 4, at Rice Memorial Hospital in Willmar.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday, May 9, at the United Methodist Church in Atwater. Interment will be at Union Cemetery. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the church. Arrangements are with the Peterson Brothers Atwater Funeral Home. Memorials are preferred to the Atwater Block Nurse Program.
Betty was born July 2, 1919, in Atwater, Minnesota, the daughter of Arnold and Ruth (Johnson) Anderson. She grew up in Atwater, was baptized and confirmed at the Atwater United Methodist Church, and graduated from Atwater High School in 1937. Betty worked as a linotype operator and proof reader at the Atwater Herald from 1946 to 1956. She then began a 30 year career as librarian at the Atwater Public Library, retiring in September 1986. Betty resided the past several years at Sunnyview Assisted Living in Atwater.
Betty was a life member of the Atwater United Methodist Church, where she served as a Sunday school teacher, the United Methodist Women and an evening circle. She was also a member of the Atwater Book Club, Atwater Bank Club and the Over 60 Club, serving two terms as president. Betty enjoyed the Senior Spelling Contests and went to state at Marshall and twice at Hibbing. She also enjoyed crossword and jigsaw puzzles.
She is survived by her extended family. She was preceded in death by her parents and a sister: June Moe.
