Betty Florence Deyo, age 88, of Willmar died Thursday morning, August 9, at Bethesda PleasantView Nursing Home in Willmar.
Funeral services will be 1:00 p.m. Monday, August 13, at First Presbyterian Church in Willmar. Interment will be held at Ft. Snelling National Cemetery at a later date. Visitation will be 11:30 a.m. - 1:00 p.m. Monday, August 13, at the church. Arrangements are with Peterson Brothers Funeral Home in Willmar.
Betty was born August 16, 1923, in Seattle, Washington, the daughter of John and Catherine (Muir) Person. She grew up and received her education in Seattle, graduating from Ballard High School in 1941. She then attended business college in Seattle. She met Lester M. Deyo while he was stationed with the Coast Guard in Seattle and they were married on January 2, 1943. They lived in Seattle until 1946, when they moved to Browns Valley, Minnesota. Betty worked as a tax preparer for Bill Paul Tax Service in Browns Valley and eventually purchased the business. She retired in 1993. Betty and Lester moved to Willmar in 1995.
While living in Browns Valley, Betty was active with the Jolly Homemakers, Eastern Star, American Legion Auxiliary and the United Methodist Presbyterian Church. In Willmar, she was a member of First Presbyterian Church, where she served as a deacon. She also volunteered with Meals-on-Wheels for many years. Betty enjoyed traveling, painting, knitting, and playing the piano and harmonica. She also enjoyed being outdoors, especially biking, fishing and swimming.
Betty is survived by her children: Cathie (and Erv) Kallstrom of Kerkhoven, Skipper Deyo of St. Cloud, Don (and Sylvie) Deyo of Roseville, and Dean Deyo of New Richmond, WI; seven grandchildren; twelve great-grandchildren; and other relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her stepfather: Frank "Mack" Mackenzie; her husband: Lester in 2002; her twin brother: Bob Person; and a son: Richard Deyo.
