Betty J. Woods, age 82, of Willmar, died Friday evening, April 20th, at Infinia Health Care Center in Willmar.
Funeral services will be held at 11A.M., Friday, April 27th, at First Baptist Church in Willmar with Rev. George Brecheisen officiating. The interment will be at a later date at Fort Snelling National Cemetery in Minneapolis. Friends may call from 4-7 P.M., Thursday at Peterson Brothers Funeral Home and at the church one hour prior to the services.
Betty Jean Woods was born on May 23, 1924, in Lidgerwood, North Dakota, the daughter of Elsie (Porter) and Albert Meyer. She moved with her family to the Sauk Rapids, Minnesota area where she grew up and completed her education graduating from Sauk Rapids High School in 1942. She continued her education at the Drews Business College in St. Cloud. During WW II Betty worked at the Rationing Office in St. Cloud. She was a charter member of the Christian and Missionary Alliance in Sauk Rapids and held several offices and was a member of the choir. In 1944, Betty was married to Harvey Goetteman and they made their home in the Sauk Rapids area until 1954 when they moved to Willmar. Betty worked for National Foods, Butters Style Center, and later as a receptionist for First American Bank, now Bremer Bank. Harvey died in 1975. On October 10, 1987, Betty married Fred E. Woods in Willmar.
She is survived by three nephews, one niece and grand nieces and nephews. Also surviving is one stepson; Donald (and Margaret) Woods of Mendota Heights, two stepdaughters; Shirley Peterson of Alexandria and Mary Lee (and William) Nappier of Arroyo Grande, California, nine stepgrandchildren and twelve stepgreat grandchildren and two great great stepgrandchildren, besides other relatives and friends. Betty was preceded in death by her parents, both husbands (Harvey Goetteman in 1975 and Fred Woods in 2004), one son (Richard Goetteman in 1974), one brother and two sisters.
