Blanche Hoepner

Blanche E. Hoepner, age 99, of Atwater, died Friday morning, May 30, at the Sunny View Senior Housing in Atwater.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday, June 3, at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Atwater. Interment will be at Union Cemetery in Atwater. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the church on Tuesday. Arrangements are with the Peterson Brothers Atwater Funeral Home. www.petersonbrothers.com

Blanche E. Hoepner was born on January 11, 1915, in Twin Brooks, South Dakota, the daughter of William and Minnie (Blake) Adolphsen. She was baptized and confirmed at Mazeypa Lutheran Church and received her education from District #62 School near South Shore, South Dakota. Blanche began working as a domestic worker and a nurses aide in Watertown, South Dakota. On January 7, 1942, at the Echo Lutheran Church, Blanche was united in marriage to Leonard William Hoepner. They lived and farmed near Wood Lake for several years. In 1947, they moved to Atwater and purchased a truck line to haul livestock. They later owned and operated Hoepner's Tavern and Hoepner's Lunch Wagon in Atwater. Blanche was a long time member of Immanuel Lutheran Church. Her hobbies included cooking, baking, sewing and gardening.

She is survived by one daughter, Marlene (and Brian) Wittman of Lake Lillian; one son, George Hoepner of Atwater; eight grandchildren; eleven great grandchildren and one great great granddaughter. Also surviving is one daughter-in-law, Nancy (and Dale) Olson of Belgrade and one half-sister, Evelyn Amell of Yucaipa, California, besides other relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Leonard in 2006; one son, Wayne; two sisters, Delta and Etta; one brother, Delmer, one granddaughter-in-law, Edye Hoepner and one grandson-in-law, Clyde Henry.
