Bruce Johnson

July 31, 1916 — April 30, 2011

Bruce C. Johnson, age 94, of Willmar, died Saturday morning, April 30th, at the Rice Memorial Hospital in Willmar.

Services will be held at 2 P.M., Wednesday, May 4th, at Calvary Lutheran Church in Willmar, MN. Friend may call one hour prior to the services at the church. The interment will be at a later date in the Nebo Cemetery near Valley City, North Dakota. Arrangements are with the Peterson Brothers Funeral Home in Willmar, MN. www.petersonbrothers.com

Bruce Carlton Johnson was born on July 31, 1916, in Valley City, North Dakota, the son of Emma Louis (Carlson) and John A. Johnson. He grew up in Valley City, was baptized and confirmed at the First Lutheran Church and received his education, graduating from Valley City High School in 1934. He attended Valley City Normal College and received his BA in education in 1941. He taught for several years in schools in North Dakota and 2 years in Oslo, Minnesota. Bruce continued his education at the University of North Dakota and graduated in 1952 with his Masters in Education. He moved to Willmar in 1952 and taught speech and declamation for 29 years in the Elementary and Jr. High Schools. Bruce retired in 1981. He was a member of Calvary Lutheran Church, an active member of Kiwanis since 1990, member of The Teachers Union, MEA, NEA and the Sons of Norway. Bruce enjoyed reading, traveling, bird watching and just being outdoors.

Bruce is survived by several relatives including a 2nd cousin, Richard (and Marlene) Bartz of Valley City, beside other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother (Emmett Louis Johnson).
