Carl Melvin Bjorklund, age 88, of Atwater, died Wednesday morning, May 7, at Rice Memorial Hospital following an extended illness.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 A.M. on Saturday, May 10, at Rosendale United Methodist Church. Interment will be in the church cemetery. Military honors will be provided by the Atwater American Legion. Visitation is one hour prior to the service at the church on Saturday. Arrangements are with the Atwater Funeral Home.
Carl was born on September 20, 1919, on the family farm south of Atwater, Minnesota, the son of Charles E. and Anna (Swerd Lusth) Bjorklund. He was baptized and confirmed at the Rosendale United Methodist Church and grew up and received his education in the Atwater community. From 1945 to 1946, he served in the U.S. Army during World War II. In 1961, Carl was united in marriage to Alice Johnson and they lived in the Atwater community. He was employed as a plumber for Holm Brothers Plumbing and Heating for over 25 years. Carl was a life member of the Rosendale United Methodist Church, and member of the Atwater American Legion and the Plumbers Union #15. Carl enjoyed fishing, gardening and spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren.
He is survived by one daughter, Cheryl (and Terry) Miller of Atwater; four grandchildren and ten great grandchildren, besides other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Alice in 1996, and one sister, Ann Leaf.
