Carl A. Doerr, age 89, of Atwater, died Sunday afternoon, July 12, at Rice Memorial Hospital in Willmar. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 A.M. on Wednesday, July 15, at Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Atwater. Interment will be at Union Cemetery. Visitation is Tuesday, July 14 from 5-7 P.M. at the Atwater Funeral Home and will continue for one hour prior to the service at the church.
Carl August Doerr was born on September 18, 1919, in Plainview, Nebraska, the son of George and Louise (Nagel) Doerr. He grew up and received his education in Creighton, Nebraska. From 1941 to 1945, Carl served in the U.S. Army. On March 12, 1945, in Willmar, he was united in marriage to Helen M. Olstad. From 1946 to 1976, they lived in Minneapolis and Carl was employed by the Ford Motor Company in the Assembly Line Department for over 30 years. In 1977, they moved to Atwater. In March of 2004, Helen died and in January of 2009, Carl moved into the Bethesda Homes. Carl was a member of Bethlehem Lutheran Church and the Willmar Car Club. He enjoyed traveling with Helen and their friends, antique cars and coffee time with family and friends.
He is survived by one son, Greg (and Mary) Doerr of Willmar; one granddaughter, Lisa (and Brett) Stich of Lakeville, and four great grandchildren, Tyler and Rylie Hayes and Kemry and Ava Stich, besides other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife; seven brothers; three sisters and a grandson-in-law, Jamie Hayes.
