Carlton Johnson

Carlton A. Johnson, age 93, of Willmar, died Wednesday morning, August 28, at the Veterans Hospital in St. Cloud, MN.

A memorial service will be held at 11:00 A.M. on Saturday, August 31, at the Willmar Assembly of God Church. Interment will be in Fairview Cemetery in Willmar. Military Honors will be provided by the Austin F. Hanscom American Legion Post #167 of Willmar. Visitation will be one hour prior to the services at the church. Arrangements are with Peterson Brothers Funeral Home in Willmar.

Carlton Albin Johnson was born on February 12, 1920 in Willmar, Minnesota, the son of Christine (Anderson) and Edward Johnson. He grew up in the rural Kandiyohi community and attended county school south of Kandiyohi. Carlton served with the U.S. Army during World War II in the Pacific Theater while stationed on the Aleutian Islands. On February 2, 1945, he was married to Susie June DeVries in Willmar and they made their home on a farm south of Kandiyohi, next to Tripolis Evangelical Lutheran Church. He was a member of the Willmar Assembly of God Church and for many years did the lawn maintenance. Carlton enjoyed walking, traveling, being a handyman and helping others in times of need.

He is survived by his wife, Susie of Willmar; three children, Kay (and Herb) Clark of Bigfork, Alan (and Jan) Johnson of Bloomington and Steve (and Debbie) Johnson of Willmar; six grandchildren; nine great grandchildren; and one sister, Dorothy Norsten of Willmar; besides other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and two brothers, Robert Johnson and one in infancy.
