Carmen Halvorson

July 21, 1961 — April 9, 2021

Carmen Rae Halvorson, age 59, of Spicer, passed away Friday morning, April 9, at Abbott Northwestern Hospital in Minneapolis from complications of Leukemia.

A celebration of life service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, April 15, at Faith Lutheran Church in Spicer.  Interment will be in the Faith Lutheran Church Columbarium.  Visitation will be from 5-7 p.m. on Wednesday, April 14, at the Peterson Brothers Green Lake Funeral Home in Spicer and will continue for one hour prior to the service at the church on Thursday.  Arrangements are with Peterson Brothers Funeral Home.  www.petersonbrothers.com

Carmen was born on July 21, 1961 in New Ulm, Minnesota, the daughter of Dean and Ramona (Krohn) Kirchner.  She grew up in the communities of New Ulm, Springfield and Sleepy Eye.  She graduated from Sleepy Eye High School in 1980 and then attended the Willmar Vo-Tech.  She was employed at K-Mart in Willmar and Food-N-Fuel in Spicer.  On June 23, 1991, Carmen was united in marriage to Lane Gordon Halvorson and they made their home in Spicer.  She worked at Somody Supply Company in Willmar and the House of Jacobs in Spicer before becoming  a homemaker.  She was a member of Faith Lutheran Church in Spicer.  She enjoyed cooking, baking, growing flower gardens.  Carmen had a great network of friends and cherished spending time with her family (especially her grandchildren), friends and her canine companions.

She is survived by her three children, Tyler Halvorson of Spicer, Kylie (and John) VanOrt of Litchfield and Riana Halvorson of Spicer; two grandchildren, Arwen and Brynn Van Ort; her mother, Ramona Kirchner of Sleepy Eye; two siblings, Keith Kirchner of Sleepy Eye and Tammy (and Jerry) Balster of Lake City, FL.; and a brother-in-law, Todd Ibberson of Sleepy Eye, besides other relatives and many friends.

She was preceded in death by her father; her husband, Lane in 2016; and two siblings, Terry Kirchner and Heidi Ibberson.
