Carroll Jacobson

Carroll E. Jacobson, age 94, of Willmar, died Monday morning, October 8, at the Bethesda Heritage Center.
Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Friday, October 19, at Vinje Lutheran Church in Willmar. Visitation will be from 5-7 p.m. on Thursday, October 18, at Peterson Brothers Funeral Home in Willmar and will continue for one hour prior to the service at the church. Military honors will be provided by the Willmar American Legion Post. Interment will be at a later date in the South Blue Earth Cemetery near Bricelyn.
Carroll E. Jacobson was born on July 13, 1918, in Kiester, MN, the son of Easton and Clara (Erdahl) Jacobson. His family moved to Bricelyn, MN in 1919 and then to Rake, IA in 1925, where he attended school through the 7th grade. In 1931, his family purchased a farm three miles west of Bricelyn and he attended the Rosedahl School in the 8th grade. Carroll was confirmed in 1932 and graduated from Bricelyn High School in 1936. Carroll was the first person in Faribault County to be drafted in W.W. II. On December 3, 1941, his ship was in the first convoy in the Pacific headed to Australia. It included two destroyers and three ships with equipment and ammunition. They were the first troops to land in New Caledonia. When Carroll returned from the service, he met Melva M. Lindstrand (of Gibbon, MN) who was teaching in Bricelyn. They were married on August 18, 1946 and made their home in Bricelyn where Carroll worked for the Standard Oil Company. In 1957, they moved to Comfrey, MN and Carroll became partners with C. Burton and Arline Lindstrand in the John Deere business, forming Lindstrand Implement Company. While in Comfrey, Carroll was a member of the fire department and was the Fire Chief from 1957 to 1963. In 1963, they purchased a John Deere business in Willmar and moved the Lindstrand Implement Company there. In 1971, the Lindstrand Implement Company was sold to the Haug Implement Company. Carroll then worked for Norling Brother's Silo Company from 1971 to 1977. In 1974, Carroll earned his pilot's license and real estate license. Since 1977, Carroll has worked in real estate with the following companies: Miles Quale Real Estate, Corneil-Elkjer and Edina Realty. He also was employed at Swenson Motors for a year and a half. Carroll is described by his family and friends as a man of integrity. He also had a great sense of humor and wit. In 1999, Carroll retired and devoted his time to his wife, Melva.
He is survived by three children, C.W. "Bud" (and Leann) Jacobson of Willmar, Bette (and Warren) Zaffke of Moorhead and Joel (and Lori) Jacobson of Willmar; eight grandchildren and eight great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, Donavan Jacobson and one sister, Elaine Monson. His wife, Melva, passed away on Wednesday, October 10, 2012.
