Celeste S. Thell, age 81, of Willmar, died Monday, May 27, at Rice Memorial Hospital.
Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Thursday, May 30, at the Church of St. Mary in Willmar. Interment will be in the church cemetery. Visitation will be 5-7 p.m. Wednesday, May 29, at Peterson Brothers Funeral Home in Willmar with a 4:45 p.m. rosary service and a 7 p.m. parish prayer service. Visitation will continue one hour prior to the service at the church.
Celeste was born February 26, 1932, in Pierz, Minnesota, the daughter of Frank and Gertrude (Tax) Jamma. She grew up in Pierz and attended St. Francis parochial school in Little Falls, graduating in 1950. She worked for Brown & Bigelow Calendar Company in the Twin Cities. On October 12, 1953, she married John Thell at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Pierz. They lived in the Twin Cities until 1958, when they moved to Parker's Prairie. In 1966, they moved to Willmar.
Celeste was an active member of the Church of St. Mary and other service organizations. She enjoyed traveling, cooking and needlework. She loved playing cards and played in both bridge and 500 groups.
She is survived by her husband, John; four children, John (and Karen) Thell of Glencoe, Sue Thell of Willmar (and fiancé Nic Batltrop), Robert (and Mary) Thell of Brooklyn Park, and David (and Mary) Thell of Fridley; ten grandchildren; and other relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents; a son, Patrick Thell in 1989; and a sister, Doris Quinn.
