Charles R. Dickman, age 86, of rural Spicer, formerly of Hector, died Saturday morning, May 12th, at his home on Green Lake following an extended illness.
A private family memorial service will be held. Friends may call from 5-8 P.M., Wednesday June 6th, at the Green Lake Funeral Home and Cremation Service in Spicer, Minnesota. Memorials to the Hector Historical Society, c/o Mr. Curtis Sampson, 50 Parkview Lane West, Hector, MN 55342-1058 are preferred.
Charles Richard Dickman was born August 23, 1920, in Plainview, Minnesota, the son of Alvin and Ruth (Brown) Dickman. He grew up in Plainview, graduated from Plainview High School in 1938 and from the University of Minnesota Pharmacy School in 1942. Later that year he enlisted in the U.S. Navy and served 3 years during W.W. II as a Chief Pharmacist's Mate. On July 6, 1945, in Crookston, Minnesota, Charles was united in marriage to Marjorie L. Johnson. They made their home in the Hector community where he owned and operated the Dickman Drug Store. In 1981, Charles retired and they moved to Green Lake in Spicer. Charles attended Hope Presbyterian Church in Spicer and was a former member of the Hector Methodist Church, where he served on the board. He was a past-president of Hector Industries, a Hector Communications Board member and a CSI Board member. Charles was also a charter member of Little Crow Country Club, a member of the Masons, Kiwanis, a 60 year member of the American Legion and was active in the University of Minnesota Alumni Association. He enjoyed golfing, fishing, gardening and being with his family and friends.
He is survived by his wife, Marjorie; his four children, Karl (and Betsy) Dickman of Shoreview, Mary (and Tom) O'Malley of Spicer, Jane Dickman of Spicer and Ann (and Ron) Ploeger of Litchfield; ten grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren and one sister, Mary Ruth (and Buel) Williamson of Davenport, Iowa, besides other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
