Cheryl M. Champagne, age 57, of Willmar, formerly of Renville, died Tuesday afternoon, July 4, at the Infinia Health Care Center in Willmar.
A Memorial Service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday, July 7, at First Lutheran Church in Renville with Rev. Stanley Kwiecien officiating. Interment will be in Fairview Cemetery in Renville. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the church. Arrangements are with Peterson Brothers Funeral Home in Willmar. Memorials are preferred to the Infinia Health Care Center in Willmar.
Cheryl Marie Champagne was born December 6, 1948 in St. Cloud, the daughter of Raymond and Ruby (Dunwell) Dey. She grew up and received her education in the Renville community, graduating from Renville High School in 1967. She then moved to Washington, D.C., where she worked as a secretary at the Pentagon. In 1970, she married Philip Edward Champagne and they lived in North Carolina and later California. In 1983, Cheryl returned to Renville, where she worked at the Renville Star Farmer News and at the Ranch House Restaurant. In 1999, she became a resident of the Infinia Health Care Center in Willmar. She was a member of First Lutheran Church in Renville. Cheryl enjoyed helping others, spending time with her grandchildren and playing bingo.
She is survived by two children, Philip III (and Diane) Champagne of Benson and Lisa (and Jaap) Tekelenburg of Silver Spring, Maryland; six grandchildren, Kayla Champagne, Philip Champagne IV, Meghan Tekelenburg, Molly Tekelenburg, Nicole Champagne and Cameron Champagne; a brother, Richard Dey of Olivia and other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents.
