Clarence M. Peterson, 81, of rural Atwater, died Tuesday afternoon, January 9, at Rice Memorial Hospital in Willmar.
Funeral services will be 10:30 A.M. Friday, January 12 at the Immanuel Lutheran Church in Atwater with Rev. Daniel Belgum-Blad officiating. Interment will be in the Oakside Cemetery near Spicer. Visitation will be 5-8 p.m. Thursday at the Atwater Funeral Home and one hour prior to the service at the church. Memorials are preferred to Rice Hospice. Military honors will be provided by the Spicer American Legion Post.
Clarence Peterson was born on February 22, 1925, on the family farm in Harrison Township, the son of Georgia (Robinson) and Gustav Peterson. He grew up in Harrison Township, attended the District 50 School and was baptized and confirmed at Harrison Presbyterian Church. He served in the U.S. Army with occupational forces in Japan during and after World War II. On August 21, 1945, he married Grace E. Enfield at the Harrison Presbyterian Church. All of his adult life was spent on the family farm. He was a former member of the Oakside Cemetery Board and the Spicer American Legion Post and served as an usher, church council member and in other various community activities.
He is survived by his wife, Grace; two sons, Ron (and Rosie) Peterson of Atwater and Scott (and Karen) Peterson of Atwater; a daughter-in-law, Bonnie Rae (and Richard) Dutchak of Atwater; eight grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. Also surviving are three sisters, Alice (and Francis) Lisecki of Willmar, Edna Kluver of Alexandria and Hazel Nielson of Atwater; a brother, Donnie (and Mickey) Peterson of Atwater; a brother-in-law, Orville Martinson of Atwater and other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents; a son, Randall and a sister.
