Clifford S. Isachsen, age 86, of Willmar, died Friday morning, June 17, at the Bethesda Heritage Center in Willmar.
Funeral services will be 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, June 21, at Vinje Lutheran Church in Willmar. Interment will be at Cloverleaf Memorial Park Cemetery. Military Honors will be provided by Austin F. Hanscom American Legion Post 167 of Willmar. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the church. Arrangements are with Peterson Brothers Funeral Home in Willmar. Memorials are preferred to the Bethesda Foundation or Rice Hospice.
Cliff was born November 9, 1924 in Wolf Point, Montana to Albert and Josephine (Hansen) Isachsen. He grew up in Wolf Point and graduated from Wolf Point High School. He then attended Concordia College in Moorhead. He graduated with a bachelor's degree in biology and then entered the Navy. After his military service, Cliff went into the teaching profession and also coached basketball. On August 15, 1954, he was united in marriage to Irene (Kunde) Isachsen. They lived in various communities throughout the Dakotas in which Cliff taught. In 1956, they moved to a cabin on Elkhorn Lake and later moved to Willmar. Cliff was beloved by his students and left his mark wherever he taught and coached. He retired from teaching in 1987. Cliff was a member of Vinje Lutheran Church and the Elks.
He is survived by his two children, Terry Isachsen and Carla (and Tom) Kukkonen; two grandchildren, Sara Kukkonen and Zach (and Stacey) Kukkonen; and one sister, Phyllis Wagnild of Kalispell, Mont.; besides other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Irene; one son, Paul; two brothers, Alvin and Harold Isachsen; and a sister, Ruth Simensen.
