Clifford Ardell Olson, age 85, of Willmar, died Thursday afternoon, January 28, at Bethesda Heritage Center in Willmar. Funeral services will be held at 1:00 PM on Tuesday, February 2, at Mamrelund Lutheran Church in Pennock. Interment will be at Bethel Lutheran Cemetery in Willmar. Military honors will be provided by the Willmar American Legion and V.F.W. Posts. Visitation will be from 5-7 PM on Monday, Feb. 1, at Peterson Brothers Funeral Home and will continue for one hour prior to the service at the church on Tuesday.
Clifford was born on January 13, 1925, in Lisbon, North Dakota, the son of Nels and Adeline (Janicek) Olson. He grew up and received his education in the Lisbon community. In 1941, he was drafted into the U.S. Army and served in the Pacific during W.W. II. On November 13, 1946, Clifford was married to Mayvis Elaine Nelson and made their home in North Dakota and Minnesota. In 1957, they moved to Pennock where Clifford was employed as a grain elevator manager. In 1972, they moved to Willmar and together, Clifford and Mayvis, owned and operated Olson's Antiques in Willmar. They were also the founders of the North Dakota Pottery Association. Clifford was a longtime member of Mamrelund Lutheran Church and was very active in many Pennock community and civic organizations. He enjoyed collecting antiques, fishing, bowling and playing card games with friends. Clifford was also an avid Minnesota Twins fan.
He is survived by his wife, Mayvis; three children, Sharon Janssen of Willmar, Jerry Olson of Willmar and Eileen (and Richard) VanHeuvelen of Fridley; eight grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren. Also surviving are three brothers, Willis Olson of Lisbon, ND., Donald (and Janice) Olson of Lisbon, ND and Gary (and Phyllis) Olson of Fargo, ND. and two sisters, Goldie Bott of Lisbon, ND. and Vonnie Steele of Lisbon, ND., besides other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother in infancy, DeWayne.
