Corey W. Hansen, age 49, of Atwater, passed away Friday evening, December 24, at his residence.
Memorial trapshooting event for Corey Hansen will be held on Saturday, May 21, from 1-3 pm at the Grove City Gun Club. Family and Friends are welcome to visit during this time with a Celebration of Corey’s life to follow at 3:00pm.
In lieu of flowers or house plants we would encourage a donation to your local animal shelter for Corey’s love of rescuing dogs.
In case of inclement weather, the trapshooting event will be canceled and the visitation and service will be in held at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Atwater MN. (same times)

Corey William Hansen was born on June 28, 1972, in Cherokee, Iowa, the son of Jerry and Carol (Olson) Hansen. He grew up in Sutherland, Iowa and graduated from Sutherland High School in 1990. Corey enlisted in the U.S. Army and served four years as a Chinook helicopter mechanic. He was a proud veteran and American.
Following his military service, he graduated from Western Iowa Technical Community College and apprenticed as a welder & pipefitter. 1996-2007 he worked on several projects in South Dakota; he worked for Broin and Associates (POET) which he constructed ethanol plants and later managed the fabrication shop. In addition, Corey and his dad Jerry co-owned Shorthair Enterprises, an underground utility installation company and an independent trucking venture.
On July 2, 2004, Corey married Michelle Renae Yungk; they lived in Marshall prior to moving to Atwater in 2005. Since 2010 Corey has been employed at Bushmills Ethanol Plant; he worked most recently as the maintenance manager but also held other roles during his tenure: control room operator, boiler operator, cook operator, and utility operator.
Corey loved to learn new things and give 110% effort of his activities. His hobbies included: hunting, fishing, scuba diving, watching football, carving duck decoys, culinary arts, and beekeeping. Corey and Michelle shared many outdoor adventures, dancing, and a love for animals; they adopted several dogs into their family, raised chickens, and produced honey.
He is survived by his loving wife, Michelle; his parents, Jerry and Carol Hansen of Hartford, South Dakota; one sister, Angela (Charles) Taylor, and son, Chuck, of Sioux Falls, South Dakota besides numerous relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his grandparents; Ray and Veva Olson; Reuben and Lucille Hansen.
*Trapshooting information: If you plan to shoot, we will have ammunition (12 gauge 1 round of 25) available first come first serve basis.
*Please bring a lawn chair for the outdoor event.
