Cynthia "Cindy" Fugleberg, age 53 of Willmar, an extraordinary wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and friend, died Wednesday morning, January 26th at the Rice Memorial Hospital after a long courageous battle with cancer.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 AM, Saturday, January 29th, at Church of St. Mary. Interment will be in the church cemetery. Friends may call from 5-8 P.M. Friday at Peterson Brothers Funeral Home and at the church one hour prior to the services. Parish Prayer Service will be held at 4:30 P.M. Friday at the funeral home.
Cynthia Grace (French) Fugleberg was born on March 13, 1957 in Grafton, North Dakota the daughter of Olive June (Demers) and Anthony Benjamin French. She grew up in that community and graduated from Grafton High School in 1975. Cindy continued her education at Mayville State College, graduating in 1979 with a BS degree in Business Administration. On July 6, 1979, she was married to James Scott Fugleberg in Finley, North Dakota. They were blessed with three beautiful children, Danica, Dustin, and Jenna. They made their home in the Mayville-Portland, North Dakota area where Cindy worked for the family business, El Dora's Dress Shops; the Farmers Co-Op Elevator and Mayville State University. The family moved to Willmar Minnesota in 1991. Cindy worked for NutriBasics, now Trouw Nutrition, Bremer Bank and later at Employment Plus until her retirement due to her health. She also enjoyed waitressing at The Eagles and Town Talk Café where she met many new friends and learned a lot of new jokes which she often shared. Cindy was active in the Eagle's auxiliary, serving as Madam President for two years and was named Madam Eagle of the Year both at the local and district levels. Cindy was a member of the Church of St. Mary's, the American Legion Auxiliary, was active with the American Cancer Society, Relay for Life and the Alzheimer's Society.
Cindy is survived by her husband; Jim of Willmar, her three children: Danica (and Jonathan) Mattson of St. Cloud, Dustin (and Tamie) Fugleberg of Lee's Summit, MO, Jenna (and Joseph) Gahlon of Wheaton and one step-son Scott Fugleberg of Grand Forks, ND. Also surviving is her mother, June French of Grafton, ND, two brothers: Lonnie (and Deb) French of Broomfield, CO and Jay (and Jody) French of Horace, ND and six sisters: Nancy (and Howard) Erickson of West Hope, ND, Luanne (and Lee) Scallon of Mayville, ND, Tracy (and Todd) Forbord of Grafton, ND, Renae (and Gene) Fayette of Grafton, ND, Robyn Johnston of West Fargo, ND and Mary Beth (and Larry) Droogsma of Melrose, many nieces and nephews, besides other relatives and friends.
Cindy was the greatest grandmother a child could ask for. She spent countless hours playing "Tea Party," reading books, and singing songs, especially "You Are My Sunshine". She will be greatly missed by her grandbabies: Mackenzie and Everett Fugleberg, Lucas and Faith Gahlon, and two step-grandchildren Kyle Sletten and Katie Fugleberg. Cindy's four Godchildren also held a very special place in her heart; Jennifer Hanson, Nathaniel French, Jesse Scallon, and Olivia Droogsma.
Cindy looked forward to seeing her family that went before her including; her father Anthony French, father and mother -in-law Vernon and ElDora Fugleberg, and nephew Kyle Erickson.
Cindy was an artistic and talented person. Her presence made life easier for everyone around her. Cindy's smile, great laugh, and sense of humor made life easier for everyone around her. She will be remembered and missed by her family, many friends, and nieces and nephews.
