Dale Bomstad

May 27, 1933 — March 19, 2017

Dale W. Bomstad,  83, of rural Atwater, died Sunday afternoon, March 19, at his home.
A time of gathering and sharing will be held from 4-7 p.m. Thursday, March 23, at the Peterson Brothers Atwater Funeral Home in Atwater, Minnesota.  The interment will be at a later date at Cloverleaf Memorial Park Cemetery in Willmar. (www.petersonbrothers.com)
Dale Wilton Bomstad was born on May 27, 1933, in Harrison Township, Kandiyohi County, Minnesota, near Atwater, the son of Alice (Sundin) and Donald Bomstad.   Dale received his education in the Lake Lillian and Mora area country schools, after which time he returned to the Atwater area and worked for different farmers.  He was married to Elvern Marie Stranberg on August 15, 1953, in Atwater and they made their home in the Atwater area before Dale joined the Army in October. They were stationed at Ft. Selfridge Airforce Base in Mt. Clemens, Michigan, during his three years of service.  After Dale's discharge, they made their home in Watertown, Minnesota. Dale worked as a heavy equipment operator much of his life, working mostly water and sewer construction projects. He was a member of the 49ers Union.
The family returned to Lake Carrie, south of Atwater in 1968 and Dale continued to work jobs throughout Minnesota until his retirement in 1995.  He enjoyed hunting, fishing, wildlife watching and just being in the out of doors.  Dale loved to be with family and friends and enjoyed the times together talking and joking.
He is survived by his wife, Elvern, of rural Atwater; one daughter, Eileen  (and Jonathon) Koeberl of Hector, and three sons: Michael (and Sharon) Bomstad of Willmar, Kevin (and Kay) Bomstad of Spicer and Steven Bomstad and special friend Marji Kujawa of Atwater.  Also surviving are six grandchildren; five great grandchildren; two sisters: Marilyn (and Ardell) Johnson of Lake Lillian and Carolyn Bomstad of Hutchinson; and two brothers: Rodney (and Gloria) Bomstad of Paynesville and David Bomstad of Hutchinson; besides other relatives and friends.
Dale was preceded in death by his parents, one sister, Donna (and Leonard) Alden, one niece and two nephews.
