Dale Hanson

Dale E. Hanson, age 76, of Willmar, died Saturday evening, October 10th, at the Bethesda Pleasant View Nursing Home in Willmar.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 A.M., Wednesday, October 14th, at the Church of St. Mary with Fr. Steven Verhelst officiating. The interment will be in the Cloverleaf Memorial Park Cemetery in Willmar with Military Honors provided by the Finstad-Week VFW Post # 0167 of Willmar. Friends may call from 5-7 P.M. Tuesday, October 13th, at the Peterson Brothers Funeral Home in Willmar and at the church one hour prior to the services. There will be a Parish Prayer Service at 6:30 P.M. at the funeral home.

Dale Ellsworth Hanson was born on December 27, 1932 in Willmar, Minnesota, the son of Alma (Odlund) and Palmer Hanson. He grew up in Willmar and received his education in the Willmar Schools. For a time, Dale worked at various jobs until he joined the Army and served during the Korean War. After his discharge from the Army, he returned to the Willmar area and on May 2, 1953 was married to Bonita (Bonnie) Mary Essendrup at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Raymond. They made their home in Willmar and he worked as a truck driver for Peterson & Clough Trucking of Raymond. Dale later went to work for Nelson International of Willmar, working there as a diesel mechanic for over 25 years, retiring in January of 1995. He lived his entire life in Willmar and was a member of the Church of St. Mary, a member of the Willmar American Legion and a life member of the Willmar V.F.W.. Dale loved being with his family and maybe spoiling the grandchildren just a little. He also enjoyed caring for his cars and his yard, taking pride in his work. Dale also enjoyed taking drives in the country and fishing, until his pole went without him.

He is survived by his wife, Bonnie of Willmar, six children; Marlene (and Randy) Madison of Willmar, Roy Hanson of Willmar, Donna (and Wayne) Arndt of Willmar, Randy (and JoNell) Hanson of Willmar, Vickie (and Mark) Thompson of Willmar and Brad (and Michelle) Hanson of Willmar. Also surviving are 17 grandchildren, 16 great grandchildren, one brother, DeWayne (and Barb) Hanson of Willmar, and three sisters, Doris (and Chuck) Leaf of Aitkin, Beverly Hirman of Raymond and Darlene (and George) DeBoer of Eden Prairie, many nieces and nephews, besides other relatives and friends.

Dale was preceded in death by his parents; a sister, Shirley DeLosier and two siblings in infancy.
