Daniel S. Ridler, Sr., age 79, of Willmar, died Monday afternoon, July 29, at Rice Memorial Hospital in Willmar following an extended illness.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 AM Friday, August 2, at the Church of St. Mary. Interment will be in the church cemetery. Visitation will be from 5-7 PM Thursday at Peterson Brothers Funeral Home in Willmar and 1 hour prior to the service at the church. Memorials may be sent to Rice Hospice Foundation of Kandiyohi County.
Daniel Sylvester Ridler, Sr., was born on December 18, 1933, the son of Joseph and Louise (Housen) Ridler, in St. Cloud, MN. The family made their home is Osakis, MN until they moved to Rochester, MN, when Dan was to enter the 5th grade. He attended Lourdes High School, graduating in 1951.
He then attended Rochester Community College. Dan enlisted in the United States Army in 1953. During this time his family moved to Paynesville, MN. There he met his first wife, Henrilda Lodermeier. They were married at St. Margaret's Catholic Church in Lake Henry, MN on June 29, 1957. This union was blessed with five children. Dan and Heinie started their married life in Minneapolis, MN and then moved to Willmar.
In Willmar, Dan worked for Minor Rodelius Ford as a bookkeeper. In 1962 he started his own bookkeeping business known as Ridler Bookkeeping. Paul Westberg partnered with Dan in business in 1963, practicing under the name Ridler & Westberg, Public Accountants. Dan retired in December 2012 after 50 years of accounting.
Dan was very active in the community. In his earlier years he was active in St. Mary's Catholic Church. His most recent involvement was with the Willmar (Eagle Creek) Golf Club.
In 1998 he married Susan Rose. They enjoyed many years of golf with family and friends. Dan's true passions were his family, friends and golf. Besides golf, his hobbies included hunting, fishing, reading, and yard work. He was always willing to lend an ear and offer an opinion.
He is survived by his wife, Susan, of Willmar; children, Deb (Brad) Rice of Spicer, Dan (Deb) Ridler of Alexandria, Lori (Tom) Schneider of Pennock, Joe (Lori) Ridler of Willmar, Kim(Kurt) Schow of Willmar, Todd (Juli) Rose of Eau Claire, WI and Becky (Chris) Boyer of Avon; twenty grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren. Also surviving are three sisters,Janette (Bob) Torborg of Burlington, KS, Mary Beth (Joel) Hyland of River Falls, WI and Kathy (Jim) Vigliaturo of Kansas City, MO; several nieces and nephews; and many close friends.
He was preceded in death by his first wife, mother, father, and an infant sister.
