Daryl Dean Johnson was born August 18, 1938, in Willmar, Minnesota, the youngest child of Harold and Mabel (Armstrong) Johnson. He grew up on the family farm northwest of Raymond, was baptized and confirmed at the United Methodist Church in Raymond, and graduated from Raymond High School in 1956. While in high school, Daryl was active with sports and many school clubs. Following high school, he continued to work on the family farm. On February 4, 1961, he married Eunice Plowman at Bethany Reformed Church and they made their home in Raymond. Daryl later worked as a blacksmith and welder for Boelter Implement in Raymond before becoming a partner in Roelofs and Johnson Construction.

Daryl was long sought after as a fast-pitch softball pitcher and played on many areas teams. An avid fisherman, he loved teaching his children and grandchildren how to fish while spending time together at the lake cabin. His family has enjoyed his beautiful cabinetry and furniture he made for them. He loved his children and grandchildren, and especially enjoyed watching their sporting events and activities. Never forgetting his farm roots, he enjoyed maintaining his vegetable and flower gardens.
