David Garvey

July 26, 1953 — September 5, 2010

David William Garvey, age 57, of Willmar, died Sunday evening, September 5, at Bethesda Pleasantview Nursing Home.

Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday, September 9, followed by a 7 p.m. memorial service at Peterson Brothers Funeral Home in Willmar. Burial will be 12 p.m. Friday, September 10, at Ft. Snelling National Cemetery, Assembly Area #5. Memorials are preferred to the Dementia Care Foundation (69531 213th St., Darwin, MN 55324).

Dave was born July 26, 1953, to George and Bernadine (Olive) Garvey. He was baptized and confirmed in the Catholic faith. In 1971, he graduated from Bloomington Kennedy High School. In December 1971, he married Janice Anderson. They lived in Colorado, where Dave served in the U.S. Air Force. He later served 8 years in the Air Force Reserve and Minnesota Air National Guard. In December 1980, he married Catherine Lokken and they made their home in Minneapolis. Dave worked as a check processor for a data company. In 1993, they moved to Willmar and Dave worked for F.S.M.C. in Lake Lillian. He retired in 2003 due to ill health.

Dave enjoyed woodworking, camping, fishing and hiking. He loved spending time with his family and adored his grandchildren.

He is survived by his wife, Catherine; his three children, Jodi (and Kyle) Tunheim, Jason (and Tara) Hammond and Justin Garvey of Willmar; two stepsons, Kyle (and Missy) Twigg and Christian (and Karin) Twigg; eight grandchildren; two brothers, Dennis (and Sue) Garvey and Matthew (and Jodi) Garvey; two sisters, Mary (and John) Bartholomew and Michelle Garvey; and other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents and his stepmother, Charlotte.
