David A. Hartung, age 60. of White Bear Lake, formerly of Atwater, Willmar and Mankato, died Monday morning, October 9, at United Hospital in St. Paul, Minnesota.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10 AM Saturday, October 14, at the Church of St. Louis in St. Paul, Minnesota (506 Cedar Street). Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the church. There is free parking in the Contract Parking Area in the parking ramp across the street from the church off of Minnesota Ave and 10th Street. Interment will be at a later date in St. Patrick's Catholic Cemetery in Kandiyohi, Minnesota. Arrangements are with Peterson Brothers Funeral Home in Willmar, Minnesota. (www.petersonbrothers.com)
David Alfred Hartung was born on November 16, 1956, in Litchfield, Minnesota, the son of Alfred Charles and Monica Agnes (Symanietz) Hartung. He grew up in Atwater and received his education there, graduating from Atwater High School. David continued his education at the University of Minnesota in Morris for one year. He was diagnosed and treated for paranoid schizophrenia throughout his adult life and lived in several places in Minnesota before settling in Mankato and worked in the Mankato Rehabilitation Center, Inc. (MRCI) for about 15 years. For the last four years, David has resided at the Lakeview House in White Bear Lake, a REM group home. David died last Monday morning at United Hospital in St. Paul, Minnesota. He had attained the age of 60 years, 10 months and 23 days.
David enjoyed chess, math and science, auto mechanics, reading and audio equipment. He loved being with his family, the Christmas season, McDonald's, Pepsi, baseball, football, card playing, Juicy Fruit Gum, Mounds bars and eggs - sunny side up.
He is survived by his mother, Monica Hartung of Roseville, three sisters; Linda Hartung of Roseville, Karen Hartung of Coon Rapids and Debra Hartung of Roseville. Also surviving are two nieces, Claire and Carrie Hartung of Coon Rapids, besides other relatives and friends.
David was preceded in death by his father, Alfred C. Hartung in 1971 and one brother, Bruce in 1974.
