David Kraus, age 39, of Willmar, died unexpectedly on Tuesday, September 23, at Abbott Northwestern Hospital in Minneapolis.
Visitation will be 1:00- 3:00 p.m. Sunday, September 28, at Peterson Brothers Funeral Home in Willmar. Following the visitation, a reception will be held at James Kraus' home at 7820 Long Lake Road NE in Willmar. Memorials are preferred in lieu of flowers.
David James Kraus was born January 27, 1975, in Wells, Minnesota, the son of James and Shirley (Dolsen) Kraus. In 1979, he moved with his family to the Willmar area and he received his education in the Willmar Public Schools. On June 27, 2000 he married Kelly Prentice in Las Vegas. David worked several jobs in the Willmar area and most recently worked for the past four years as a certified welder at Towmaster in Litchfield.
David was a wonderful father to his son Jeremy and loved helping to raise Kelly's son, Damon, since he was a toddler. David was an excellent artist and drew, airbrushed and etched glass. He also dabbled in tattooing and most recently metal work. It seemed he could create something out of almost anything. He enjoyed music and watching the Vikings. He enjoyed riding motorcycle and was a member of the Brotherhood Motorcycle Club and loved his Brothers like a family.
David is survived by his wife, Kelly; his son, Jeremy Gunn of Willmar; his stepson, Damon Hanson of Willmar; his parents, Jim and Shirley Kraus of Pennock; three brothers, James (and Chandie) Kraus of Willmar, Travis (and TraciJo) Kraus of Willmar, and Brian (and Krystle) Kraus of Pennock; and a sister, Pamela (and Brian) McDowell of Pennock. Also surviving are his mother-in-law, Joan Espelien of New London; brothers-in-law, Travis (and Kellie) Prentice of Spicer and Andrew (and Kate) Prentice of New London; his maternal grandmother, Marion Dolsen of Willmar; several nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, and cousins; and other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his paternal grandparents, John and Elsie Kraus; his maternal grandfather, Lloyd Dolsen; and several aunts and uncles.
